McElroys was formed in 1992. Founding partners Michael Ring and Patricia Courtney identified an opportunity to provide quality litigation and insurance advice to a niche market. Without the overheads required in medium to large firms that service could be provided at very competitive rates without compromising quality.

Michael Ring is now one of New Zealand’s leading QCs. Patricia Courtney is a High Court Judge. The current partners all worked extensively with the original partners and have built on the standards of technical excellence which has underscored all McElroys’ work from inception.

McElroys prides itself on quality and timely technical and practical legal advice. There is an emphasis on clearly and concisely identifying litigation risk at the earliest possible opportunity to enable cost effective resolution of disputes and if necessary efficient management of litigation. McElroys sees its role as both advocate and problem solver.
